Speaker 1:

Welcome to the Art of Healing podcast. This is Dr Charlize and we are going to be covering some information on balancing your hormones naturally and how energy alignment can help. I'm so excited to be sharing this presentation with you. If you are joining me in the live meeting, in your chat you'll see a link that's going to get you the handouts and then a link that you can follow along. If you are catching this after the live recording, you'll be on the podcast so you can check your show notes for the information needed, including the handouts, if you want to have a look for yourself, as well as some of the links, to find out more about this exciting program.

Speaker 1:

So, energy Alignment, this upcoming program, and really what my approach has been working with my patients in the last couple of years, started with my own journey, and my own journey was, I like to think of it, crossing the bridge crossing the bridge between Eastern and Western healing modalities, crossing bridges between subtle energy and hard science, crossing bridges between subtle energy and hard science. But as I began to study topics outside of medicine because I have been in practice in medical science for several years I could clearly see that there were some links in relationships between functional medicine, reiki, chakra work, other energy medicine modalities. I just really started to wonder if it was possible to take a holistic approach and look at all of these, and is it possible to learn how to approach things like hormonal health or chronic pain using this natural approach and starting with your energy? Of course, it can be difficult because it's so hard to define what is energy, what is that? How is it? But in going back and forth and then working both on myself and working with my patients, I found out that there really is a way that you can approach working with your body's hormones, working with yourself, where you can take this approach and you can do it naturally. And it's nice because you can do it gently as well. So my story is that I discovered the practice of Reiki a little bit after.

Speaker 1:

What that anxiety attack was teaching me was that I had been living with anxiety for many years, so much so that I actually thought that's just how the world operated. I just thought that you just stayed in that state. It helped you operate better and that's how things were. But it wasn't until I actually had an anxiety attack. I felt how crushing and disabling that was that I had to start really digging deep. So digging deep for me was multiple things it was working with my own doctor, working with a therapist, eventually practicing yoga, and then learning the practice of Reiki, and my full intention when I first took my Reiki One course, was just to work on and heal myself.

Speaker 1:

I was so excited to learn this healing modality, something that I could do. I'd had a Reiki session and I was just pleased as could be that it was something that I could learn on my own and do, and, working with myself over the years I could start to sense my own energy and feel my energy change and, in particular, how it was affecting how I felt. And then later having some functional medicine tools which helped a lot, having it confirmed with numbers and, in particular, learning after some time that the anxiety that I had learned to live with and even kind of thrived with sometimes, was in part driven by my adrenal glands, driven by my pituitary gland, by my hypothalamus, driven by all of these glands that were responding to the anxiety-driven thoughts that I was having. So that leads me to now. When I work with myself, for instance, and I'm filling my energies off, I don't like where things going that I now realize it's time to stop and look at what's going on with the thought content, what's going on with how I'm feeling, and then what's happening with my body's energy that I perceive, and then my subtle energy. And then it gets even more fun because sometimes, when I'm working with my own patients, I can actually speak to this with them. We can explore this, as you know, when they have symptoms they don't like or don't want to live with. Where is this coming from and why?

Speaker 1:

So now, when I work with my patients, we look at two things. One of the things that can be very helpful is understanding the physical location and the function of our endocrine glands, the glands that produce hormones. So that's done pretty simply by just kind of reviewing our anatomy. We've got tools that are really helpful, like hormonal testing that can be done from the comfort of your home or done with more advanced lab testing, and then also understanding our energy body and what are thought of as the seven major chakras, where they are and what kind of feelings and emotions are related to those. So this graph, side by side, puts both of them together, and when I'm working with my patients, we'll look at things like the root chakra, which is our first, and it's associated with our feelings of safety, feeling protected, feeling well sheltered, how the adrenal glands function and how, if we're not feeling that rooted sense of safeness, does that disrupt how our adrenal glands function or make them function too much. So that can get really interesting.

Speaker 1:

We're looking at the third chakra, which is the solar plexus chakra and where the pancreas lies, and that's a major gland and, as you're aware, the pancreas is part of maintaining sugar levels and produces hormones that control that, such as insulin and glucagon. And the solar plexus chakra is associated with feeling empowered, clear thinking, feeling motivated, self-esteem and how, if we don't feel that, or we're feeling disrupted, how that feeling could somehow lead to the pancreas not working very well and lead to developing blood sugars that are abnormal, too low or too high, or even so high that you have diabetes. The third eye chakra, which is located in the head, correlates to the pituitary gland, and the third eye chakra is thought of as being the place of perception, where our senses go and how we perceive life, as well as our ability to sense and then even some intuitive or psychic abilities, and that correlates with the pituitary gland, which is the master gland, the gland that's going to coordinate how all the other glands in the body work. So really interesting when we start looking at that, especially when we're trying to figure out things like I'm tired I don't know why. Or I got on this thyroid pill, I'm taking it, I still feel tired. That's a common one. I'm taking thyroid medicine, I still feel tired and I don't know why. Or, for women, after having a hysterectomy, still don't feel myself. I'm taking these hormones, but I just don't feel as good as I should. So sometimes looking at it from this direction can be very revealing in someone that's trying to figure out the next steps.

Speaker 1:

One of my favorite quotations is from dr richard weber, who was an internist and a metaphysician and a coordinator. Dr weber is gerber. It's actually anatomically, each major chakra is associated with a major nerve plexus and a major endocrine gland. So and we just reviewed that they seem to line up pretty well. And then bestselling author Cindy Dell shares with us that chakras are subtle energy organs that manage the flow of energy related to all parts of our lives. They are personal power systems. They are similar to physical organs in the body, such as our heart. I like this quote because she helps us to understand that when we're exploring these energy medicine topics, we may not fully understand it. It may be better to just feel it, sense it within our bodies. But we won't get the hard science numbers answer on these things. So why energy alignment matters and coming up?

Speaker 1:

Why this program matters is that hormonal health is really not black and white. Many times people will get the impression that if you get a hormone level checked and then you replace the hormone to where you believe it should be because we have a set of numbers that tell us this is kind of the normal range, that once we do that we should feel better. But unfortunately it's really not that simple. I frequently have to tell my patients that labs they help, they can be helpful, but the lab doesn't tell us how you feel in your lived experience. So we have to remember that, although that number is needed, if, for instance, you start your levothyroxine and you still feel very tired, then we're really not at the answer and there's probably more to the story as to why you're feeling tired. Even once we replace your thyroid levels back to where the lab says is normal.

Speaker 1:

Conventional medicine is extremely helpful when we're trying to figure out the symptoms hair growth that we don't want, blood sugars that are too high, skin that's changing in color. So of course conventional medicine's excellent at getting to the diagnosis. But then once we get there and we figure out chemically how to make you safe, how to prevent anything serious from happening, it kind of falls off. It doesn't really explain to us how you got there and then unfortunately, it doesn't always give us a way to get out of it. So of course if we need prescription medications we have to take them. But a lot of patients taking common replacements thyroid replacement, hormone replacement they want to know what can I do to feel better. So they don't always need this.

Speaker 1:

And when you have hormone imbalances which I will explain to my patients is maybe not so much of an imbalance it's just that what's happening inside your body is not the best for what you need to feel in life. So something may not be working enough, something's working too much. Things are not communicating, organs aren't communicating with each other and the end result of that is that it's you that does not feel well. So the approach to that is best done holistically. So that leads us up to an exciting group program that's underway. We are currently working on it now, and this is going to be a blend of functional medicine, of energy healing, learning to balance the chakras and learning the practice of Reiki. And although this program is for anyone who is motivated and wants to devote some of their time and their energy to heal their bodies, we were thinking of women who are living with not feeling the way they want to feel, who might be feeling busy and time constraints, or may have already gotten some answers as far as blood work, as far as working with functional medicine doctors, but still don't feel the way they want to feel. And what we're doing is we are combining these practices over a several week program to help you find your way back to yourself. So I think of us as guides more like guides, but that at the end of this, you'll be the one that finds the solution. And in our program we'll be including educational topics on functional medicine. We'll be including energy medicine tips, including you learning the practice of Reiki, and you'll be doing this all along the way Very exciting. So I'm going to introduce your team that is going to be working with you. So I'm Dr Charlize and so, of course, if you're listening to my podcast, you probably see some info about me and I'm partnering with three healers that I'm so excited are ready to share their gifts, share their knowledge and are so on board to helping you feel the way that you want to feel.

Speaker 1:

Kathy Harmon-Luper, who is the offerer of Suffering to Thriving, is a sound healer. She's a Reiki master and she combines her gifts to help those that need it most on the most difficult journeys. I will put in the show notes where you can get a copy of her book. I personally will tell you Kathy truly is inspiring. She's a shining light for anyone who's dealing with serious illness. Her approach is gentle, it's loving and really what she shares can help anyone dealing with a serious diagnosis, including crushing chronic pain, cancers, heart disease, anything like that. So in the show notes I'll make sure to include where you can find Kathy's information and if you sign up for our program, when it's ready you'll get to work with Kathy.

Speaker 1:

Melissa is a board certified holistic health practitioner and functional nutrition coach and she believes that food is medicine and she works with her clients to get to the root of disease. So Really Nourished is Melissa's website and I will put it in the show notes so that you can find her. And then also we are going to have Tway Nguyen, who is an executive in a large major hospital as well as a Reiki master. Tway has been a healthcare executive for many years and he's worked in financial planning, strategy and institutional advancement. On top of all that, he's a Reiki master and he is going to be leading the training to helping you become a certified Reiki One practitioner.

Speaker 1:

In the show notes I will include information about where to find all of them, and they will be part of the team that'll be working with you. So for the next steps, what I would recommend is that you get a copy of my free ebook Chakras and Hormones. So this is a resource we put together that introduces the idea, really helps educate you as far as where we're going, and it'll also have our contact information in there. And then also I encourage you to start learning more about this connection, what you can do next. I think this is a really exciting place to get you started.

Speaker 1:

And then, lastly, you can book a consultation with me.

Speaker 1:

So I am accepting functional medicine patients in certain states, and the link in the information I'll provide should explain to you the states. This is about 10 or 11 states that I can work with patients. If I can't provide you functional medicine care in the state that you are in, it is possible to work with me. As far as getting a Reiki session and my Reiki sessions we really do focus on not just the energy healing but really exploring on an energetic level what you're feeling the energy healing, but really exploring on an energetic level what you're feeling my newsletter link if you aren't on my newsletter, because I send out information about once a week and then whenever we have live events, like a live podcast testing or webinar, I make sure to get it in there and then I also put a link on places where to find me, such as on social media, my websites. So thank you so much for joining me today and if you will check your show notes, I will make sure that you have all of that information about the upcoming program. Thanks so much.
