So during this session we'll discuss the healing power of Reiki. We will delve into how it can help with stress relief, emotional balance, touch on important ways that it can help you in your everyday life. So let's get started. So Reiki is a form of energy healing. It's actually one of many energy healing practices. In the next several minutes, we'll actually cover a number of energy healing modalities. Promote healing balance.
Speaker 1:I was recently listening to noted and highly experienced author, reiki practitioner, reiki healer, pamela Miles. I follow her content. I follow her online. I have not taken a course with her yet, but it is definitely on my agenda to train with her. She offers some wonderful resources, including something called a Reiki timer. Those of us that are in Reiki are used to needing something to help us remind us of time, so she created this Reiki timer app that is so helpful. But she was recently saying in an interview that you should be worried about anyone who can describe Reiki and tell you exactly what it is, because, in fact, we really can't describe it exactly as it is. And I took so much comfort in what she said because one of my roles as both a physician and a Reiki healer is that I'm asked to present the topic of Reiki to a scientific community. So I've stumbled and fumbled upon a number of phrases and blah, blah, blah, blah, and I really can't ever get around to it, which, for the Reiki community and those of us that are woo-woo, we're okay with not having a distinct definition and we like that. We like to just fill it and let our intuition take us there. But for the scientific community, it helps to have something. So when she left with the statement of anyone that tells you they can tell you exactly what Reiki is, you should be leery. I felt so much better.
Speaker 1:What Reiki is to me is creating a healing intention, creating a healing space, creating a time for healing and then devoting that time, space, intention to helping either if I'm the Reiki client, helping myself or helping my Reiki client by channeling this energy that we intend, hope and pray will improve the situation, improve the cells, improve the tissues so that they're optimized and function for the highest good. Still not the easiest definition, but with Reiki there's a source of energy that is powerful, it's all knowing, it's wise, and it really just asks for you to ask for it to come in. But once you ask for it to come in, it will do what it needs to do to help the situation. And then the Reiki Healer is a channel, so the channels like the focuser, the antenna that receives and then directs it to where we've asked it to go to. What I love about Reiki is that it's non-invasive.
Speaker 1:So many of the healing modalities, definitely in my medical world, in the practice of medicine, are incredibly invasive. We don't think about it. But prescriptions are, of course, the most invasive because it's the chemical going into your body and as much as we have decades of information on pharmaceuticals, decades of information on prescriptions, in the end of the day we don't always really know how this works. Same thing for herbal supplements. I like to tell my functional medicine clients that even with herbal supplements we might have some idea and it's plant-based and we think we know how it works. But chemically it's probably doing things on the molecular level that we still don't understand. Of course we reap the benefits, but we always have to keep in mind that it's going inside of our body. Invasive treatments like surgery of course, when we need surgery for very sick, something's very injured, surgical treatment is indicated, but of course it's invasive, so we increase the risk that something could go wrong, may not feel good. Even treatments like physical therapy or manipulative therapies with chiropractors again, these are helpful when we need them, but they are invasive in that we are changing the tissue of our bodies mechanically With Reiki, when we're channeling that energy, it's not invasive.
Speaker 1:We're asking energy to go into the body or into the energy body and then we just ask that Reiki do what's best for the person that's receiving and through that they will find that they are receiving the healing that they need and we're not having to highly manipulate or change them and therefore the risk of side effects or ill effects are very low, and we really like that. That's nice. And then, of course, reiki is a holistic approach. We love that it's holistic. It can address more than the physical needs approach. We love that it's holistic. It can address more than the physical needs Reiki clients that have come to me. It's probably a split between all three reasons why someone would want a Reiki session. Some want to heal physical symptoms, some are working with emotional symptoms that have gone on for a long time, some are dealing with spiritual issues. And then I've noticed that Reiki clients are wise, very wise, and they know what they need. And so they usually present to me with all three and having a sense of what's created the problem that they're living with, that they want to heal and wanting Reiki to help clear the path to heal, that I have seen that Reiki has been presented as being an ancient healing modality and I just like to point out to people that I don't know ancient.
Speaker 1:The practice of Reiki that we practice here in the West now originated in Japan in 1922. And it was discovered by the original Reiki master, makayo Yusui, and it was through a deeply spiritual experience that he had after he had several questions about his life, existence, everything that he took himself on a spiritual journey and came back with the gift of Reiki that eventually spread from him to his students and his students to the rest of the world once it hit the West and then it spread around the planet and has become the practice that we have today. In the history of Reiki, some of the information that is handed down is that it was a rediscovery of the ancient healing techniques of Jesus Christ. And as I've studied Reiki because the history of Reiki does get a little bit controversial and it gets a little blended, but what we're taught as students is that is just be open-minded when we're learning the history of Reiki and that description I often love that it's actually just a rediscovery of a healing intention and technique that was always available to us, taught to us by Jesus Christ, but with the nature of humanity and suffering on the planet, we just simply forgot. So we were reintroduced to what we can do with our minds, our bodies and our spirit if we set the intention.
Speaker 1:It's also important to know that Reiki is open to everyone. So anyone who wants to receive Reiki can, but anyone who wants to learn Reiki can and should. A lot of people that become curious about Reiki will sometimes feel like maybe they're not allowed to, maybe it goes against their religious beliefs or their upbringing, or maybe it requires you to have been born with special gifts or already have some certification. But Reiki is open to everyone, Doesn't matter your age, background, your spiritual beliefs. Spiritual belief is important because Reiki is open to all religions. Reiki is not a religion.
Speaker 1:Reiki can support your religious practices if you'd like and as you become. If you become a Reiki practitioner, you can invoke your religious practice into your Reiki practice. They actually work very powerful together. I love prayer and Reiki together. But also, reiki is open to atheists. Someone that's an atheist can actually practice. Reiki is open to atheists. Someone that's an atheist can actually practice Reiki, and I love to point that out to people, because it's just important to know that this isn't a closed world. It's open to everyone that feels called to it. There are no prerequisites, so you don't have to have anything coming into it and it's a personal journey. So if the term hits your energy field or your thought or consciousness, it's an invitation to start learning more, start reading more, start feeling into it. That way is a personal transformation.
Speaker 1:The Reiki one is, to me, still the most powerful time in a Reiki healer's life is when you transition from not knowing to knowing, and where it takes you from there is amazing, but it also can take you into just becoming your own healer the most important aspect of Reiki. So there are some myths about Reiki, and we would expect this because as a practice it's becoming more common but it's not very well known and because of some of the storied history and just the nature of the practice, it's very easy to make some assumptions or some misgivings. And then, of course, we always have to worry that there might be some people who are practicing offering and not coming from the best of intentions. Reiki is not a religion, so it's open to any religious background. Anyone in any religion that feels called to Reiki should, because it will not interfere, it will not stop you from your religious practice. You can use Reiki to support your religious practice and if you're working closer working to become closer to your religion and tuning in, reiki can support that.
Speaker 1:There is scientific evidence showing the benefits of Reiki and in this topic it's actually growing more and more as time goes on that there are benefits of Reiki. Naturally, there's going to be studies that show Reiki is not necessarily beneficial for all conditions and I think that's completely fair. We know that not all healing modalities will work for everything, but there are scientific evidence to show that Reiki can help with a number of medical conditions when studied under a scientific setting. And then, of course, reiki is a safe practice. I've seen some mentions online in different settings that was Reiki safe?
Speaker 1:I had a Reiki session and I don't feel well and some things. And I really have to lean on the fact that if it's a Reiki, a certified Reiki practitioner, that's coming from the best of intentions, it's a very safe practice. So for me, reiki has really been a life hack. It's been a tool that I could tap into for a lot of reasons, not just for my own physical health, although it is what I use on a daily basis. I practice Reiki on myself, but it's been something I've been able to tap into in a number of places in my life. So, of course, for self-healing you can. Once you learn Reiki, practicing on yourself is a requirement and a prerequisite in your first few weeks of becoming a Reiki practitioner. You can use it to release stress. You can use it to balance your emotions. And when you're performing your own Reiki sessions, it doesn't have to be a full session of 45 minutes or an hour. You can do a Reiki session on yourself in the short of nine minutes or 15 minutes and you'll still reap the benefits.
Speaker 1:Reiki is one of my favorite tools for work. It's such a great work tool. I tell people that no matter where you work or what you do, learning Reiki can help grease the wheels of your work environment. So Reiki is great before corporate meetings, before interviews. Reiki is great to ease your day at work if you want to Reiki your schedule to make sure you run on time and things run smoothly. If you're working with your hands, you could use Reiki to protect your hands. You can even Reiki devices like your tools, your instruments, your computers. You can use Reiki on those to help them run smoother. So it's one of the coolest life hacks and you can do just a few minutes of it and it works great.
Speaker 1:Reiki is wonderful for travel. One of my favorite things to do before a trip, during a trip and even after a trip is sending Reiki to your travel itinerary. Send Reiki to your flight to make sure it leaves on time and it runs smoothly. Or, if you're anxious during trips, reiki on yourself before or even during the trip, just to help settle your nerves. If you own pets, one of the best places to use Reiki is with your pets. Animals love energy medicine. They are energy beings and they're so much more intuitive than us humans. So Reiki for our pets, depending on what's going on and you can actually become certified in animal Reiki, which you learn more about the energy bodies of animals, which are different than humans. But even with your Reiki training, just using it to help calm pet nerves, sending distance Reiki to pets if they're at the vet's office, one of my very favorite tools and it's something I've been doing now for about seven or eight years is Reiki with my fur babies To get started with Reiki.
Speaker 1:There's a number of ways to do it and, of course, one of the best ways is a way to treat yourself and do something nice for yourself is to book a Reiki session with a Reiki practitioner. Experiencing Reiki for yourself is a beautiful thing and it's a healing space and it's just fantastic, so booking a session is always worthwhile. Many Reiki practitioners work online or in person, or a combination of both. Learning the basics of Reiki, so really just reading about it, I think anytime you become curious about a healing modality, educating yourself is one of the best places to start. You can actually learn Reiki. You don't actually have to go to someone first if you're feeling called to it. One common example I hear quite a bit and that's called to some people is that because of their requirements as a caregiver to family members, that Reiki becomes something that they're called to and it helps them in their caregiving role caring for a sick parent or sick child or just sick family member that they learn Reiki and it helps themselves and then it helps in their caregiving roles.
Speaker 1:When you start your Reiki journey, the things that it does for you it empowers you, it helps you learn to take charge, increase your intuition, see the places in your life where you need healing and actually do something about it. It's holistic, so it's both physical, emotional and spiritual. And when you learn Reiki it's actually a lifelong practice. So once you learn the first level, you don't ever lose it. You don't have to retrain in it, although many of us Reiki healers often go back and do more training. But once you've done the first level of training, it's with you. The Reiki attunement stays with you your whole life. For some Reiki practitioners they start the training and then they forget and don't practice for a long time, and it's okay. As long as they start to practice again, they come right back to where it is. But it's okay. As long as they start to practice again, they come right back to where it is. But that's something you learn. It's ingrained in you that once you learn Reiki it never goes away. It's just always there for you.
Speaker 1:I put in the chat box. There is a handout with these slides, just so the links are there. But if you are feeling called, there will be a Reiki One training with me. That'll be on November 16th and the details will be in the links there. That's in the download. It's also on, I believe, on my main website. So we'll be doing four hours of training Reiki, one certification to help launch you on your Reiki path.
Speaker 1:I have a self-paced Reiki course that I keep open on my website as well Healing Arts, health and Wellness and this is for people that, of course, want to get started. They're busy, just want to start right away, and the lessons are chopped up into short little pieces so that you can easily get started on your own schedule. Online Reiki is actually a very nice way to learn, and then we connect when it's time to do your attunement, and I've been fortunate enough with most students are able to work out something that works for them, because the attunement, if we can do it live, we prefer to do it live, but it doesn't have to be live because there's so many life circumstances where we just can't make that happen. So I've got a way that we can do the attunement live, or do it. If we can't do it another way, do it if we can't do it another way.
Speaker 1:I have a Reiki practice in Oklahoma City and I've got information that's in the handout as well on my website. As far as, if you are wanting to schedule a Reiki session for yourself, I actually have a number of sessions, but the 90-minute session is really the most therapeutic because it allows us time to talk. I leave my Reiki clients with a written report of your sessions, from everything that we discuss. You get a breakdown of what we discuss. You get a breakdown of your energy blocks where you're doing well, and I send my Reiki clients with recommendations, information or even tasks that they may want to complete after their Reiki session.
